This school district in Michigan is disrupting the school to prison pipeline with their “Handle with Care” initiative- a new effort in coordination with local police departments to assist children dealing with trauma. The correlation between childhood trauma and incarceration is extraordinary, with some estimates hovering around 90%.
“Recent national studies showed that 60% of American children have been exposed to crime, violence or abuse. Another 40% were direct victims of two or more violent acts, according to the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
