PLEA: An Introductory Film to a Complicated Injustice

In our broken criminal justice system, there are many ways to get sentenced for murder - without committing the actual murder.

Director, Joseph Oppenheimer, a former criminal defense lawyer from the UK and our wonderful partner in this work, developed PLEA as an introduction to a complicated injustice.

The film tells the story of a plea bargain falling apart in a South LA Juvenile Court. It touches on the pervasive criminalization of foster youth and it also dramatizes the outcome of a contentions criminal offense, ‘Provocative Act’ Murder.

The film stars Eduardo Franco (Netflix’ American Vandal) and after a successful lap of the festival circuit is now available to watch as a Vimeo Staff Pick.
